LOOKING TO SEE provides structured guided tours and educational outreach to the general public, with a focus on K-12 schools, after-school programs, and community organizations. The Halsey is committed to increasing community engagement by providing greater access to contemporary art, and the tours are open to all interested groups and schools FREE of charge. The Halsey also offers travel subsidies, the Bus on Us initiative, to schools/groups that may have barriers for participation.

We offer in-person tours, reservations for self-guided groups, and educational packets for our current and recent past exhibitions that can be used outside of the galleries. All groups and classes planning a trip to our galleries for either in-person or self-guided tours MUST complete the Tour Reservation Request form.

Announcing Director & Chief Curator Michael Dickins

The Halsey Institute of Contemporary Art at the College of Charleston School of the Arts is excited to announce a new Director. Michael Dickins will take the helm as Halsey Institute Director and Chief Curator on Wednesday, July 16, 2025. Dickins’s leadership follows the Halsey Institute’s former director, Katie Hirsch, accepting a position as Deputy Director of Exhibitions at the Taubman Museum of Art.
